Built in 1939 for Lieutenant-Colonel HG Carter (who was the Mayor of Ku-Ring-Gai 1938-39) and designed by F. Glynn Gilling, the property also belonged to the late ophthalmologist Edgar J Donaldson who was a founding member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, and the Sydney Eye Hospital. The home is a lovely example of art deco architecture with curved walls and a grand staircase.
